Dehydration, according to WebMD, “is a condition that occurs when the loss of body fluids, mostly water, exceeds the amount that is taken it.” Dehydration can lead to a number of problems including fatality. Ensure that your body is hydrated. It is key to ensuring good health. Here are a few signs to look out for. This will help catch dehydration early on before causing damage to yourself.
1. Muscle Cramps
Muscle cramps are extremely painful and can come out of no where. To ensure you do not get dehydrated, you should consume water throughout the day and intake potassium. Then you will help prevent unwanted cramps which cause excruciating pain!
2. Fever
Running even a low grade fever while exercising is a tell-tale sign of dehydration. If you are feeling more over-heated than you normally do, take a rest and make sure to drink lots of water before you begin again. Many people begin to panic when they start feeling sick. The key is to immediately start drinking more water to ensure proper hydration and making sure that was not causing the issue.
3. Dry Skin
Cracking skin is one of the less ascetically pleasing signs of dehydration. If you always wake up with extremely dry lips, consider drinking a large bottle of water before bedtime. The downside to this is you may start waking up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom. May take some time to figure out the right amount so you do not start having this problem.
4. Bad Breath
Lack of hydration can cause overgrowth of bacteria in your mouth, which leads to very bad smelling breath. Even if you brush your teeth 5 times a day dehydration will keep your mouth feeling dirty. The last thing you want is to be known as that smelly breath person. Keep up with your hydration and you can prevent this from happening.
5. Headaches
Getting a splitting headache after long periods of exercise is one of the most dangerous signs of dehydration. If you experience this issue, you should stop what you are doing immediately and get hydrated!
If any of these symptoms occur to you frequently, you can begin reminding yourself that you need to solve your hydration issues. In order to avoid these things occurring, you should try to always keep a water bottle handy and to sip more during meals. It is recommended for people to drink nearly 3-4 liters of water per day depending on your gender. Although most people prefer the temperature of their water to ice cold, this slows down the stomachs ability to absorb into your system, so try and stick to room temperature.
